How to configure IPP printing on a Windows 2000 network server
Note: Set IP address, subnet mask and gateway on your PrintServer, using PrintGuide or PrintServer's web interface.
- Click Start, then Settings and Printers.
Double-click Add Printers. The Printer Wizard opens. Click Next to continue. Select Network printer and click Next.
- Now you need the URL name from the PrintServer. See the URL name on the configuration page or in PrintGuide.
Select Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your intranet and add the following in the URL: http://<IP of PrintServer>/ippserver/printer1, e.g. http://172.16.7.56/ippserver/printer1. Then click Next.
- If your Windows 2000 machine does not have the printer driver installed you will receive the following message on the screen: "The server on which the unknown printer resides does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to install the driver on your local computer, click OK".Click OK to continue.
- Select printer manufacturer and model, then click OK. If your printer is not listed, consult your printer documentation for a compatible printer.
When asked "Do you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer", click No, then Next.
- Click Finish to complete the installation.
- Now you have to make sure that all necessary components are chosen on you Network adapter/Network card. Click Start again, then Settings. Click Control Panel. Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
Now you will see the network on you machine. Double-click Ethernet or Token Ring depending on the network you are using.
Click Properties and make sure that the following protocols are installed.
- Client for Microsoft Networks.
- File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks.
- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
If this is not the case please follow the normal procedure for installing protocols and drivers in Windows 2000.
- Click OK and the IPP printer is ready to print.
