How to configure a PrintServer
Configuration methods
Configure TCP/IP
The TCP/IP network protocol can be configured using any of the following methods:
- PrintGuide
Use DLC protocol to discover the PrintServer. Identify the PrintServer by the MAC address you recorded during the installation. Upload the configuration from the PrintServer. Enable TCP/IP and specify the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway. Download the configuration and restart the PrintServer. Refer to Getting Started with PrintGuide.
- BOOTP
Add an entry in the BOOTP server's database that defines the PrintServer's IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.
- DHCP
Set up the DHCP server so it can assign a valid IP address and subnet mask to the PrintServer.
- ARP
You can use the arp command to assign the PrintServer an IP address.
- Printer's Control Panel
This apply to internal PrintServers only. Use the menus in the printer's control panel to specify the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.
Network protocols
- TCP/IP
IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.
- IPX/SPX
Novell NetWare protocol settings for NCP, EPS, and supported frame type.
- NetBEUI
Microsoft Windows protocol settings. No special set-up is required when printing with default values.
- PU/LU
IBM SNA protocol settings for IBM host configuration (Block number, ID number, remote MAC address, local SAP, and remote SAP).
- ida802.2
ida802.2 alias name.
