Pre-installation task

  1. Verify that your Control Unit (CU) is supported by the protocol converter.
  2. Find an unused device address (0-6) on the AS/400. Use the prtdevadr command.

Installation

  1. Power off your printer. Connect the printer's parallel cable to the protocol converter's PARALLEL OUT port and secure the cable using the two mounting bails.
  2. Set the device address (0-6) using the red ADDR switch on the rear panel of the protocol converter. The white marker on the switch indicates the current setting.

    Possible positions of the ADDR switch:
    • 0,...,6 - Device address (0-6).
    • T - Test and settings printout.
    • A - For service personnel only.
    • B - For service personnel only.
  3. Power on printer and protocol converter.

Generate settings printout

  1. Record the current position of the red ADDR switch on the rear panel of the protocol converter.
  2. Turn the switch to position T (TEST) and back to the original position when the printer has started printing.
  3. Verify correct device address on the printout.

Connect to host

  1. Power off printer and protocol converter.
  2. Connect the auto-terminating T-cable to the Twinax socket at the rear panel of the protocol converter and turn the connector ring clockwise to lock.
  3. Connect the Twinax cable(s) to the T-cable.
  4. Power on printer and protocol converter. The green LEDs for CU on the front of the protocol converter should light.
