Quick Guide
CAUTION
Static electricity can damage the HostCom EIO. You should either wear an anti static wrist wrap, or frequently touch the metal surface of the printer.
Printer memory
Prior to starting installation, we recommend that you print a configuration sheet to verify that your printer has enough memory to support the HostCom EIO.
Pre-installation task
- Ensure that the printer's language is set to PCL.
- Find an unused device address (0-6) on the AS/400. Use the prtdevadr command.
Install interface in printer

- The relevant documentation supplied with your printer.
Install IPDS DIMM in printer
If an IPDS DIMM was supplied with your HostCom, please see one of the following references:

Configure HostCom using printer's control panel
Refer to your printer's manual on how to operate the control panel.
- Power on printer.
- Set the device address (0-6):
[EIO #] => [TWINAX MENU #] => [NON IPDS MENU] =>
[SCS Address]
- Set the emulation (default is 3812):
[TWINAX MENU #] => [NON IPDS MENU] => [Emulation]
- Set the language (default set at factory according to order):

The '#' is the number of the socket holding the HostCom.
Configure HostCom via Mini Centronics
If the printer (LaserJet 2100) does not have a control panel then you can set the device address and emulation via the HostCom™’s mini centronics port. Refer to the HostCom EIO Tx User’s Guide on the Utility Pack CD.
Generate settings printout
- Power on printer.
- Press the TEST button on the HostCom to get a settings printout.
- Verify correct device address on the printout.
Connect to host
- Power off printer.
- Connect the auto-terminating T-cable to the Twinax socket at the rear panel of the HostCom and turn the connector ring clockwise to lock.
- Connect the Twinax cable(s) to the T-cable.
- Power on printer. The green LED for CU on the back of the HostCom should light.
