Quick Guide

CAUTION

Static electricity can damage the HostCom™ EIO. You should either wear an anti static wrist wrap, or frequently touch the metal surface of the printer.

Printer memory

Prior to starting installation, we recommend that you print a configuration sheet to verify that your printer has enough memory to support the HostCom™ EIO.

Pre-installation task

  1. Ensure that the printer's language is set to PCL.
  2. Find an unused device address (0-6) on the AS/400. Use the prtdevadr command.

Install interface in printer

For installation of your HostCom™ EIO, please see one of the following references:

  1. The enclosed User’s Guide
  2. The relevant documentation supplied with your printer.

Install IPDS DIMM in printer

If an IPDS DIMM was supplied with your HostCom™, please see one of the following references:

  1. The enclosed User’s Guide
  2. The relevant documentation supplied with your printer.

Configure HostCom™ using printer's control panel

Refer to your printer's manual on how to operate the control panel.

  1. Power on printer.
  2. Set the device address (0-6):
    [EIO #] => [TWINAX MENU #] => [NON IPDS MENU] => [SCS Address]
  3. Set the emulation (default is 3812):
    [TWINAX MENU #] => [NON IPDS MENU] => [Emulation]
  4. Set the language (default set at factory according to order):
    [TWINAX MENU #] => [NON IPDS MENU] => [Code Page]
  5. Save the settings:
    [TWINAX MENU #] => [SAVE MENU] => [Save Settings]

The '#' is the number of the socket holding the HostCom™.

Configure HostCom™ via Mini Centronics

If the printer (LaserJet 2100) does not have a control panel then you can set the device address and emulation via the HostCom™’s mini centronics port. Refer to the HostCom™ EIO Tx User’s Guide on the Utility Pack CD.

Generate settings printout

  1. Power on printer.
  2. Press the TEST button on the HostCom™ to get a settings printout.
  3. Verify correct device address on the printout.

Connect to host

  1. Power off printer.
  2. Connect the auto-terminating T-cable to the Twinax socket at the rear panel of the HostCom™ and turn the connector ring clockwise to lock.
  3. Connect the Twinax cable(s) to the T-cable.
  4. Power on printer. The green LED for CU on the back of the HostCom™ should light.
