Quick Guide
Pre-installation task
- Verify that your Control Unit (CU) is supported by the protocol converter.
- Find an unused device address (0-6) on the AS/400. Use the prtdevadr command.
- The default IBM printer emulation is 4214-2. Refer to the Installation & Operator's Guide if you want to change emulation.
Installation
- Power off your printer. Plug the protocol converter's parallel port into printer's parallel input port and lock it with the two mounting bails.
- Set the device address (0-6) using the red ADDR switch on the front panel of the protocol converter. The white marker on the switch indicates the current setting.
Possible positions of the ADDR switch:
- 0,...,6 - Device address (0-6).
- T - Test and settings printout.
- Power on printer and protocol converter.
Generate settings printout
- Record the current position of the red ADDR switch on the front panel of the protocol converter.
- Turn the switch to position T (TEST) and back to the original position when the printer has started printing.
- Verify correct device address on the printout.
Connect to host
- Power off printer and protocol converter.
- Connect the auto-terminating T-cable to the Twinax socket at the rear panel of the protocol converter and turn the connector ring clockwise to lock.
- Connect the Twinax cable(s) to the T-cable.
- Power on printer and protocol converter. The green SYNC LED on the top of the protocol converter should light.
