How to configure peer-to-peer printing in Windows by direct mode set-up

This describes how to configure peer-to-peer printing in Windows 9x/NT4/2000/XP by direct mode set-up.

Direct mode set-up uses SMB NetBIOS/NetBEUI for printing. In this mode, every PC in the network sets up a direct connection to the PrintServer. When you print, it is as though the printer were connected to your own PC. The PC currently printing takes care of the spooling to the printer.

Every client PC using direct mode must perform the following installation in order to use a printer connected to the PrintServer.

Notes:

  • The Windows client PC in the network must have the TCP/IP protocol installed.
  • Workgroup settings must be defined both in the PrintServer and the client.
  • Ensure that the PrintServer is set up in the correct Workgroup/ domain when using SMB NetBEUI peer-to-peer printing. You can check the Workgroup or domain name on the PrintServer's Summary panel web page (in the frame on the right-hand side).
