How to configure peer-to-peer printing in Windows by lpd/lpr mode set-up
This describes how to configure peer-to-peer printing in Windows 9x/NT4/2000/XP by lpd/lpr mode set-up.
Windows NT4/2000/XP
Note: The PC in the network must have the TCP/IP protocol installed.
- Click Start, Settings and Printers. Double-click Add Printer.
- Select My Computer and click Next.
- Click Add Port.
- Double-click LPR Port
- In the Add lpr compatible printer dialog, enter the PrintServer's IP address and Queue name in the appropriate fields and click OK.
You can view the PrintServer's queue names in the Logical Printers web page.
- Click Close in the Printer Ports dialog.
You can see the port you added in the Add Printer Wizard, Available Ports list.
- Click Next in Add Printer Wizard.
- Select/ install the appropriate printer driver.
Windows 9x
Windows 9x do not support lpd/lpr printing directly. To setup lpd/lpr spooling on your network, you must first install an lpd/lpr spooler.
Download and install the software. Refer to the product-specific documentation for information on setting up queues and installing printers.
