How to define a matrix output with LinkCom III IPDS
Introduction:
This document describes the procedure of how to setup the LinkCom III for support of IPDS emulation to a matrix printer.
Pre-requisites:
- LinkCom III w IPDS support (Ver. S80 556.770 or higher must be installed)
- PrintGuide Ver. S42 065.320*02 or higher
- Font Set S92 103.007
- ITC configuration file 'matrix.itc'
Background information:
LinkCom III IPDS now supports IPDS to matrix printers via IBM 4247 emulation. Prior to selection of the IBM 4247 matrix emulation of the box, a definition file containing the specifications of the target printer must be downloaded to the box.
This will enable the matrix printer language to be listed in the menu and to be selectable via PrintGuide.
For correct font support, the IBM 4247 equivalent font set must also be downloaded to the box. This will replace the already installed default font set.
What to do (Step-by-Step procedure):
Download ITC file (Matrix Printer Configuration file)
- Open PrintGuide
- Download 'Generic Matrix.itc' as follows:
- Highlight the actual box
- Select menu: 'PrintServer' - 'Update Configuration' - locate the *.itc file and select 'Open'
- The 'Generic Matrix.itc' may be found on the web or under: [Drive]:\Program Files\MPI Tech\PrintGuide\Printer Descriptions
- Confirm the download.
- Type in a password only if this is changed by the system administration. Default password is: 'adm'
- Ensure that the 'Restart PrintServer after download' is enabled. Hit 'OK'
Select the output Language to the printer
- After successful download and restart check the availability of matrix options in the language selections
- Select the Language that matches the configuration of the target printer. This will automatically also select IBM 4247 emulation
- Select 'OK' and save configuration
Download matrix printer font set to the PrintServer:
- Download the IBM 4247 font set to the PrintServer as follows:
- Open PrintGuide
- Highlight the actual print server
- Open Menu: 'PrintServer' - 'Update Configuration'
- Locate the font set (103007.b92) and select 'Open'
- Observe the progress and confirm successful download
- Restart the Printserver
- Configure the printer settings to match the options of the actual printer used
- The Printer writer on the IBM host system must be restarted to recognise the changed settings of the box
Important Note:
It is important that the actual printer is verified to be configured to use the same emulation as the output language setting defined in PrintGuide.
The options are:
- IBM PRO (Non PPDS Pro)
- EPSON FX (9 pin)
- EPSON LQ (24 pin)
- IBM PRO XL24 (PPDS Capable font select [FGID])
As some printer functions and font handling of the various matrix printers may be different even when configured to the same emulation, it may be required to test different settings and to adjust the *.itc file accordingly to match the actual printer.
