Freedom to innovate using PDF
Open a mainframe window to the world wide web
The world of computing is changing but, for many users, change and innovation is happening elsewhere, creating a widening gulf between the capabilities of legacy systems and new applications focussed on PC networks and the Internet. MPI Tech bridges the gap, delivering new opportunities to create a true multi platform environment with the output options demanded by today’s users without disturbing existing applications. AFP2PDF mainframe conversion is an example of a modular approach. As a part of MPI Tech EPM (Enterprise Print Manager) and PSS solutions, the AFP2PDF conversion can be implemented within an enterprise-wide output strategy or as a stand-alone system. AFP2PDF will liberate valuable mainframe data and enable web publishing, direct e-mail output and generation of web ready files and other flexible output options - all with viewing before printing. Changing the way output can be delivered brings the best of the new world of computing to the power, security and stability of mainframe systems.
PDF makes OS/390 data available for Internet use
Making host data available to the Internet is a key element in the integration of past and present. Industry standard formats and tools build the required platform. It is essential to create the environment of the Internet user, even if data are stored on the host. The ability to view before printing selected pages is another important feature. Finally, when printing, fidelity must be ensured.

EPM and PSS – the OS/390 solution for network printing
In addition to enabling OS/390 – Internet integration, EPM and PSS are designed as the single point of control to manage all enterprise-wide output in today’s multi-platform network environment. EPM and PSS receive input data from a variety of sources: JES spool, IMS/CICS (via VTAM or directly via an API) and from PC/UNIX using upload-and-print. These printing solutions transform AFP and line data into PCL, PostScript, PDF or ICDS and prints via TCP/IP or SNA networks.
Additional capabilities
- AFP and line data printing (also from VTAM)
- Enhanced print management and administration using user-friendly full screen interfaces
- Dynamic changes of printer definitions
- Integrated up-load and print facilities
