Printing Security

A British insurance company has integrated its i-series production with its print management and security system.

The new BlueServer™ features retrieve the information needed to control and account for the prints generated at the i-series level.

Problem

One of MPI Tech’s blue-chip customers in the insurance industry has been using the BlueServer™ since 2004 to print its IPDS streams. The customer decided to outsource its printing operations in early 2008 to an external vendor who was asked to integrate security and cost control software for both the Windows and i-series environment. MPI Tech was chosen for this operation.

Proposed Solution

This control operates on a “user-by-user” basis and is installed on a server that receives PCL data generated by the Windows network and by the BlueServer. The latter receives AFP/IPDS streams from the i-series, transforms them into PCL, and sends the processed files to the control and counting queues. The user name is not the same on the i-series and on the network.

As a result, MPI Tech has developed a new feature that allows the BlueServer to retrieve the user name registered on the i-series and integrate it into the identity table provided by the client.

The BlueServer then sends this identity in the appropriate format to the control and counting software so that the application recognizes the correct user.
